This Candy Cane Popcorn Recipe is the Best!

Candy Cane Popcorn 1

We are pretty wild about candy canes and popcorn, and we are glad it’s December so we can start making our delicious Candy Cane Popcorn.

Most of the recipes we’ve seen out there include white chocolate, but we aren’t big fans. This version is an ooey-gooey goodness of buttery, caramel popcorn mixed with a fresh peppermint crunch. It’s nothing short of spectacular. Seriously you should make some today too.

“Love is Complicated” Class Valentine

Rubiks Cube Valentine 1

As a mom of boys, I’m adamant that we share a fantastic boy Valentine each year. Our Boy’s Valentine from last year still has me giggling, but truth be told: last year Liam had a last-minute mind change and instead of passing out whoopie cushions he passed out these: slightly nerdy (but in a totally good way) mini Rubik’s inspired puzzle cubes. They were a hit!!

Okay, I’m not sure, but I think this might be the LONGEST post in the world…. so be warned. When we shared our Tangled Birthday Party we broke it into several posts, but we found that a lot of people who arrived at our posts from the archives or Pinterest missed some of the ideas so we decided to give you all our Birthday Party ideas inspired by Disney’s Frozen Movie in one, massive post. At least there are lots of pretty pictures…

I get really excited about little things, like the fact that we cut larger paper snowflakes that looked EXACTLY like the snowflake on the Frozen party invite. Anyone else realize how incredibly awesome that is, or am I just a bit crazy?? Be sure to read our tutorial on how to cut a perfect snowflake to see how to work this magic. Wouldn’t it be fun to tuck a folded up snowflake into the envelope with the party invites?

Easy Cupcake Wars Party Ideas

Cupcake Wars Party 17

My oldest daughter just turned nine, and to celebrate her birthday she wanted to hold a Cupcake War. I don’t think she has ever seen an episode of the Food Network show Cupcake Wars, but she loves the Cake Boss series, and somehow picked up on the “Cupcake Wars” phrase. So we invited over a few of her friends and got baking!

Turns out a Cupcake Wars birthday party is pretty easy to pull off. As far as party decor goes we created a simple “Cupcake Wars” banner and hung some colorful, tissue paper honeycomb balls and fans. (I’m sharing our free printable Cupcake Wars Banner template below). Then we used butcher paper as a tablecloth to make clean up a breeze. We marked the girls’ spots by simply writing their names on the butcher paper with a marker.

White Christmas Free Printables

Tga 1

Let me just begin with an apology for the poor photo quality. I forgot to bring along my real camera so I did my best with poor lighting and my iphone. I wasn’t planning to post about this event, but we ended up getting requests for the free printables we used to decorate the tables, so we decided to share them even if we are embarrassed by the photos. UPDATE: Thanks to Jamielyn we now have some better photos!

I am a huge fan of White Christmas… both the movie and the snowy holiday. So I was excited when Jamielyn told me that would be the theme for Glitter Academy — an AZ craft night and blogger meet up that is so much fun!

Baby’s First Mother’s Day Gift Idea

Mothers Day Gift Ideas Baby Footprin Ttowels

I recently had this idea to stamp baby’s footprint onto tea towels as a mother’s day gift, and now I am really wishing I’d made one of these with all of my newborns. Wouldn’t that be such a fun little collection to have?

Mother's Day Gift Idea - Baby's Footprint Hand Towels withe free printable gift band from PagingSupermom.com #mothersday

Since my baby boy isn’t here yet, my good friend Sarah was kind enough to lend me her darling daughter’s foot. We used my favorite thirsty, flour-sack towels. Brush the sole of baby’s foot with acrylic craft paint in the color of your choice. Carefully stamp onto a corner of the towel. We ended up stamping the two opposite corners on each towel just for extra fun.

By the way, I have done quite a few painted-fabric crafts (including these similar monogram tea towels) with just the regular, inexpensive, acrylic craft paint. I never pay extra for the stuff intended for fabric, and my projects have held up just fine.

DIY Ninja Game

Ninjamagictreehousebook 1

Since I read to my boys all the time when they were babies and toddlers, I really thought they would grow to love reading. But the truth is they don’t. (At least not yet.) So I’ve had to get creative. I’ve been trying to come up with activities we can do that correspond with our current nighttime reading. I’ve found my boys are more excited to read (and even listen to) books when they know the storyline will inspire fun experiments, games, snacks and more.

Ideas for getting boys to read at PagingSupermom.com #reading #ninja #book

Most recently we read Night of the Ninjas from Mary Pope Osborne’s Magic Tree House Series. Are you familiar with this series? Magic Tree House books are simple chapter books for early readers. The fun, descriptive story lines transport readers to different cultures and time periods as they travel with siblings Jack and Annie.

Preschool Graduation Goodies

Congratsgraduatestreat

Aimée mentioned yesterday that we have some super-cool preschool graduation ideas. We’re sharing them today over on One Charming Party, and here’s why: at each holiday party for Piper’s preschool class this year, I have re-created ideas from One Charming Party — like the Popcorn Turkey and Donut Tree — and I’ve developed a bit of a reputation. Now everyone is expecting something spectacular for Preschool Graduation. The problem? There aren’t any preschool graduation party ideas on One Charming Party… yet!

Easy Tangled Party Invites

Easytangledinvitations

I promise we’ll be getting back to St. Patrick’s Day stuff later this week, but I’ve had these new Rapunzel Birthday Party Invitations sitting on my desk for a couple months now and finally got around to photographing them.

I know we already showed you our super-cool Tangled Tower Invitation, and we still love that idea. (I mean it’s pretty hard not to love the idea that landed you on the Martha Stewart Show, right?!) However, it came to our attention after this post that many people were looking for a simpler invitation for their parties — what do you mean you don’t want to buy a special paper punch or make a dozen Rapunzel braids? We so hear you! So I set out to design a new, printable Tangled-themed birthday party invitation with absolutely no braiding required.

Easy Tangled Birthday Party Invitations

I was planning to just make one, but Aimée and I loved each of these designs equally well and couldn’t choose… so you’re actually get TWO new Tangled Birthday Party invite ideas (you’re welcome!)

Both of these new easier Rapunzel party invites coordinate with our new Tangled Printable Party Collection — read more about it here.

TangledBirthdayPartyPrintablePartyFreebies

The beauty of these invitations is you just print, cut and mail. Of course, being the Supermom wannabes that we are, Aimée and I couldn’t resist adding a little something extra to the sun emblems with a bit of gold glitter and glue, but this DIY is truly easy.

TangledBirthdayPartyInvitations

ALL YOU NEED: school glue and some fine gold glitter. We used this one which is also available in our favorite glitter set. (Seriously, I can’t say enough good things about Martha’s glitter pack… Aimée and I both have and love it, and if you don’t already have it we say make it an early Easter gift to yourself!)

Want to have a Nancy Drew Party?

Nancydrewpartyinspirationboard1

Remember the Nancy Drew books? Well I love a good mystery, and I’ll always have a big soft spot when it comes to dear Nancy, my favorite amateur sleuth. A few years ago, I was lucky enough to inherit my mother’s collection of Nancy Drews (see Exhibit A below) — I believe my mom has had these books since her own childhood.

Aimée and I love receiving emails from readers asking for help. Sadly we aren’t able to answer all of them, but when Corrie S. wrote in last week asking for ideas for a Nancy Drew birthday party fit for a twenty something, my interest was immediately piqued. In fact, I couldn’t help myself — I went straight into party planning mode, no longer able to focus on what I was “supposed” to be doing, and quickly started pinning a bunch of Nancy Drew party ideas.

I just love this party theme. So much, in fact, that Aimée and I are now tossing around the idea of starting a Nancy Drew Book Club with our friends. (Anyone interested?) Turns out Aimée hasn’t read a single Nancy Drew book, EVER?! I think that needs to change.

So to help out dear reader Corrie (and possibly for our TBD Nancy Drew Book Club) here are my favorite Nancy Drew party ideas. Plus, keep reading to the end of this post for our freebie Nancy Drew Printable Party collection! Off we go…

How to Host a Rapunzel Party

Tangledbirthdaypartypinablemashup

Ever since we posted about Attalie’s Rapunzel Birthday Party last year, we’ve been caught up in a bit of a Tangled whirlwind. When I was planning the party in December 2010, the movie was brand new and there weren’t a lot of ideas out there. So Aimée and I let our brainstorm run wild and the resulting party was loads of fun and landed us on the Martha Stewart show!

HowToHostATangledBirthdayParty

Equally fun has been sharing it with all of you and re-living the excitement as many of our readers have hosted their own Rapunzel Birthday Parties. Of course our inboxes have also filled up with lots of questions:

“How did you make that Tangled Birthday Cake?” and “Was it hard?”
“Got any other easy Rapunzel Birthday Cake ideas?”
“Do you have any printable Rapunzel cupcake toppers?”
“Where can I find a Rapunzel Crown template?”

And this one, asked more times than we can count, really got us thinking… “Do you know how I can customize that Rapunzel Birthday Party Invitation with my party details?”

So today, I am very excited to unveil a TOP SECRET project that was months in the making. We’ve heard the cries for help, and Aimée and I think we have the answer. Well two answers actually. (Be sure to scroll to the end of this post for the really BIG news.) First up is our NEW! Rapunzel Printable Party Pack and a few freebies.

We’ve created all the printables we think anyone would ever need to host their own Rapunzel Birthday Party (yes, even a printable Rapunzel Crown), and we’re giving a few of them away FREE! Feast your eyes…

FreePrintableTangledBirthdayPartyPinableMashup

We took most of our inspiration from the purple and yellow Kingdom Sun Pennants seen flying all over the town square at the Lantern Festival in the Tangled movie.

Cupid’s Crunch Mix + Printable

Cupid01

Cupid02

Last year I attended a book club meeting just before Valentine’s Day, and I wanted to bring a sweet Valentine snack to share. When my net surfing failed me for a suitable recipe, I decided to invent my own Cupid’s Crunch. Keep in mind I use the word “invent” rather loosely here. I mean, I literally mixed a few red and pink candies in a classic munchies recipe: Chex Puppy Chow. Remember that stuff? Slightly messy and absolutely horrid for you, yet this treat is delicious enough to justify making once a year. So, here I am making it for my 2011 ration.

Making Cupid’s Crunch doesn’t take long, and you probably have most ingredients in your pantry. First, make some Chex Puppy Chow. (You can find the recipe and directions below.)
