I recently created this template for a summer reading chart to motivate my kiddos to be bookworms this summer. We’ve done the summer reading program with the library, but we love this summer reading chart template because you can fill in whatever prizes will really motivate your kids! Today I’m happy to share my free printable summer reading rewards chart with all of you.
TO USE: Download the free printable Summer Reading Chart at the end of this post. Print out — I used cardstock so it would be more durable. Have the kids track their progress towards the reading rewards by filling in a box on the rewards chart for every one minute of reading. Each row on the summer reading chart has 60 boxes, representing one hour. I love tracking reading TIME rather than chapters or pages because it works well for rewarding kids across all reading levels, so you can use this reading rewards chart template for all your kiddos! Plus there is the added educational benefit of helping kids learn how to track times by writing down their start and stop times then subtracting. If your early reader isn’t ready to track his/her time, you can also set the timer for a chunk of time and then when the timer goes off they can fill in their chart. For my youngest kids we read aloud together.
I designed my summer reading charts with a blank reward’s space so you can fill them in with whatever will motivate your kiddo. Each of my kids has a different line up on their summer reading chart, and I even let them help me pick their summer reading prizes.
