Since I’m a Mom of boys, Bettijo giggled a little when I showed up to a recent photoshoot with our Stars & Stripes Patriotic Wand. After all, frilly wands are clearly for girls, right? But I just really wanted to make this! I can imagine all sorts of cute little girls in patriotic sun dresses twirling around with this adorable wand in hand, cheering on the local Fourth of July parade and anxiously awaiting firework shows. Oh, it’s just perfect in my head! (And, don’t worry it wasn’t all for nothing, my boys have had lots of fun using this as a sword!)
:: Star & Stripes Wand Star Template, printed
:: Wooden dowel, roughly ¼” diameter and 12” long, painted blue
:: Blue felt
:: Blue thread and needle (optional)
:: Glue gun and glue sticks
:: A variety of red, white and blue ribbons
Download and print our Star & Stripes Wand Star Template. Cut out star shape from template then trace onto blue felt. Cut two stars from felt. (I folded my felt to have two layers, so I could cut both stars at the same time.) With blue thread and needle, hand-stitch the felt stars together around the edges leaving enough space on an inside corner of the star to insert the end of the wooden dowel. (If you’re not into sewing, you can easily hot glue the two felt stars together.) Cover the end of a painted wooden dowel with hot glue and insert into opening of sewn (or glued) felt stars. Cut your ribbons roughly 36″ long. Gather together, and tie in a knot onto the wooden dowel just below the star.
