Shark Class Valentine

Free Printable Shark Valentine 5

My boys and their friends are obsessed with sharks. After all, what’s not to love about a giant animal with thousands of teeth ready to bite you? So last year Harrison’s buddy enlisted my help for a shark valentine printable. Of course, I was happy to oblige.

Although these squirter sharks are really water toys, around here they spend most of their time attacking various Lego Minifigs on dry land.

Worksheet Wednesday: Graph Paper

Freegraphpaperprintable

Free Printable Graph Paper #graphpaper #printables

Since this post is about our new graph paper I suppose you’re expecting me to write a story inspired by Liam or Harrison’s newfound love of architectural design–and although my boys love this paper, I really created it with me in mind.

When my Dad is not busy being a SuperPapa, he fills his extra hours being an Architect. Growing up, I watched my Dad take notes, create building sketches and write letters on really cool graph paper notepads nicely branded with his logo. (I should have known I was destined for advertising and design then!) Shortly after Bettijo and I started Paging Supermom I designed my own Paging Supermom branded graph paper to be just like him. (I wonder if I can get his Architecture firm to use my version instead?)

But really, graph paper is so versatile. Your kids can probably come up with a million uses for it–to get them started, here are some ideas:

Learning to draw a star provides a huge sense of accomplishment. I mean, it’s a star — the five simple crossing lines that magically create the doodle of all doodles, right? I vividly remember learning to draw a star when I was younger and the excitement I felt. Do you?

Raw, Natural Beauty

I am Brave and Beautiful — abeauty movement that is sweeping the globe. Colbie Caillat started it with her recent song and video called TRY. Our blogging friend Megan Brassy Apple wanted to push this movement along and invited women from all over to share what they look like without make up, and we joined in. Colbie’s song says, “Take your make up off. Let your hair down… Look into the mirror at yourself, Do you like you? Cause I like you… “

Megan and Cobi of Peacefrom6pieces are behind this whole project. Their worldwide vision included creating their own video inspired by the song TRY. The talent of Robbins Creative made it possible for them to pull it off. You have to click play and see the beauty and bravery displayed and you might even recognize a few faces in there.

Bettijo and I, along with 101+ other blogging women from different backgrounds, religions, ethnicities, ages, shapes and sizes have decided to be Brave and Beautiful. You can join in this movement too by sharing what you look like without makeup on. You don’t need a blog either — just tag your photo with #IamBraveAndBeautiful on Instagram and search the hashtag to see who else has joined in. Also, if you tag it with a second hashtag #ColbieTRY we just might be able to get Colbie Caillat’s attention since she was the inspiration behind it all.

“Love is Complicated” Class Valentine

Rubiks Cube Valentine 1

As a mom of boys, I’m adamant that we share a fantastic boy Valentine each year. Our Boy’s Valentine from last year still has me giggling, but truth be told: last year Liam had a last-minute mind change and instead of passing out whoopie cushions he passed out these: slightly nerdy (but in a totally good way) mini Rubik’s inspired puzzle cubes. They were a hit!!

Worksheet Wednesday: What’s the Contiguous United States?

Contiguous Map United States Printable

Coloring map of the Contiguous United States and many more free Printables from PagingSupermom.com

Since my family travelled pretty much all summer, my boys suggested we color in a map to show the states we visited this year. I quickly formatted and printed this map only to discover confusion among my youngest. He was so concerned: where were Alaska and Hawaii? Since we hadn’t visited either of those states, I (lazily) left them off the map which ended up presenting us the perfect opportunity to explain a couple terms we hear referring to similar maps: The Lower 48 and Continental United States.

Country Ghost Party: Recipes

Boobiscuits

Need some good Halloween dinner ideas? Here’s our favorite recipes from our Country Ghost Party.

For Halloween Dinner Eat Ghostly White Chili and Homemade Mac & Cheese

For our main dishes we served ever-popular homemade mac+cheese and my personal favorite a ghostly white chili! I whipped up this simple macaroni & cheese recipe. Debbie (whom you may know as Dr. Debbie), makes the most scrumptious and kid-friendly chili. It’s a fall and wintertime favorite at our house. Lucky for us all, she’s agreed to share her recipe:

Debbie’s Ghostly Chili

:: 2 cans white navy beans, reserve liquid
:: 1 large onion, peeled and chopped
:: 1/4 cup butter
:: 1/4 cup flour
:: 1 1/2 tsp chili powder
:: 1 tsp cumin
:: 1/2 tsp salt
:: 1/2 tsp pepper
:: 1 cup chicken broth
:: 1 cup half and half
:: 2 – 4 oz cans of diced green chilies
:: 1 cup cooked cubed chicken

Saute onions in 2 Tbs butter. Add remaining butter, flour and powdered spices. Cook until you have a roux, about one minute. Gradually add chicken broth, bean liquid and cream. Stir until smooth and slightly thickened. Then add sauce to beans, chilies and chicken. Warm in crock pot until ready to serve.

white chili recipe for Halloween Dinner

We offered colorless garnishes for the chili: white cheddar, white onion, sour cream and white corn tortilla chips served up in cracker jars atop tree stump pedestals. These wood slabs are my favorite part of the food table. Nothing says “rustic” as perfectly as these raw tree slices that still have bark — with lichen and all — still in tact.

What to Make for Halloween Dinner

SUPERMOM PARTY SECRET: To remove the intense onion smell and taste from the diced onion garnish, soak the diced pieces in ice water for 30 minutes, then drain and refrigerate until ready for use. I diced and rinsed mine about 10 hours before our party to ensure the smell would be gone!

Halloween Dinner Ideas: Boo Biscuits with Orange Butter

The Boo Biscuits are really Harrison’s favorite breakfast treat: buttermilk scones. To make them appropriate for this ghostly feast I shaped them with our favorite ghost cookie cutter. Continue reading for the recipe…

Worksheet Wednesday: Christmas Counting

Ornamentcountingworksheet

I’m pleased to report that my house has officially begun our Christmas season! Oh yes — our trees are up, the outside lights are hung and every December weekend is now booked with a Christmas party of sorts. Oh, and the best part: my online shopping spree is providing lots of gifts being delivered daily–I am especially happy about this because this is the first year I will finish my shopping early. (Yes, that is an official Supermom Moment for me!)
