I had a roommate in college who made the yummiest chocolate chip cookies on a regular basis. They were always fresh. Always hot. Always gooey, and always satisfying. Her trick: freeze the dough in pre-formed balls. So, I took that idea, and now we have freshly baked cookies as often as I, the Mom, say it’s okay.
Here’s how I do it. I make our favorite cookie dough, scoop it with a tablespoon-size ice cream scoop, place it on a lined cookie sheet and then freeze the balled dough on the tray overnight. The next morning I put the frozen dough balls into a freezer-safe container and store until cookie time.
When you’re ready for cookies, pull out the desired amount, place on a lined cookie sheet, preheat oven and bake. I’ve found that the frozen dough generally doesn’t take extra time to bake.
I have taken this tip from you — it makes providing cookies on a moments notice easy. Homemade cookie dough is so much tastier than the store bought kind in my humble opinion. It is a timely hint with the holidays coming up.
This is such a great idea! I’m sure the kids will love it but actually I’m thinking more because when *I’m* in the mood for cookies I don’t usually feel like going through the trouble to make them! LOL! ;)
genius! need to do this. care to share your roomies recipe?!?
Excellent idea. Your cookies look DELISH. I want some… like… tonight. haha.
I do this.. but the hard part is not eating the cookie dough. The cookie dough always ends to disappear before I can actually bake the cookies!
good point Noelle!
Haha… I know the feeling! I keep our frozen cookie dough stash in our garage freezer–sometimes the few extra steps to the garage make it less tempting.
Christine: I no longer have my roomies recipe, but I do have my own recipe I love. I’ll post a recipe in an upcoming post…
I can’t think of anything better than fresh homemade cookies straight from the oven! This tip is great because it gives me the fresh cookies that I want, and the “mess” has already been taken care of.
