Is Tomorrowland Too Scary for Kids?

A Parent's Take on Disney's New Tomorrowland Movie

We have been pretty excited to see Tomorrowland, starring George Clooney and Britt Robertson, which opens in theaters today. Created by Disney and rated PG, this may look like a perfect film for a family movie night, but before you head out to the theater with your crew, here’s what you should know.

A Parent's Take on Disney's New Tomorrowland Movie

Review of Disney's Tomorrowland Movie from a Parent's point of view

We first saw a trailer for Tomorrowland when we took our family to see Disney’s new Cinderella movie in March. In that glimpse, Tomorrowland looked like a fun, family movie; however, we recently saw a few more intense trailers (particularly the one below) that left us wondering for what ages the movie is appropriate. Happily we were invited to an early screening of the show, and we paid careful attention to figure out which of our kids we should take to see it.

Raw, Natural Beauty

I am Brave and Beautiful — abeauty movement that is sweeping the globe. Colbie Caillat started it with her recent song and video called TRY. Our blogging friend Megan Brassy Apple wanted to push this movement along and invited women from all over to share what they look like without make up, and we joined in. Colbie’s song says, “Take your make up off. Let your hair down… Look into the mirror at yourself, Do you like you? Cause I like you… “

Megan and Cobi of Peacefrom6pieces are behind this whole project. Their worldwide vision included creating their own video inspired by the song TRY. The talent of Robbins Creative made it possible for them to pull it off. You have to click play and see the beauty and bravery displayed and you might even recognize a few faces in there.

Bettijo and I, along with 101+ other blogging women from different backgrounds, religions, ethnicities, ages, shapes and sizes have decided to be Brave and Beautiful. You can join in this movement too by sharing what you look like without makeup on. You don’t need a blog either — just tag your photo with #IamBraveAndBeautiful on Instagram and search the hashtag to see who else has joined in. Also, if you tag it with a second hashtag #ColbieTRY we just might be able to get Colbie Caillat’s attention since she was the inspiration behind it all.

Postcards from Camp

This is the year I send my oldest son, Liam, to a week-long overnight camp. I spent 13 summers at this camp, and now Liam is old enough to go and make magical memories similar to mine. (Where has time gone?)

Camp-Letter-Home 3

As a kid, camp is FUN! A whole week of canoeing, swimming, funyacking, archery, crafts, camp fires, friends, songs and more! But, as a Mom, I’m feeling major anxiety!! I’ve never gone a day without talking to Liam, and now I have to go a WHOLE WEEK. (I’ve been rehearsing the sendoff in my head to make sure I don’t cry!) Needless to say, I’ll be on pins and needles awaiting a letter from Liam.

With the World Cup going on now in Brazil, we wanted to share this free printable Brazil banner.

Free Printable Brazil Banner via @PagingSupermom -- would be great party decor for a Missionary Farewell or Missionary Homecoming or for a #WorldCup Soccer viewing party

Are we big soccer fans? Well, actually no. I’m pretty sure the only soccer games either of us have been to were for one of our kids.

Are we big Brazil fans? Um, no, not really big Brazil fans either, but I created this banner for my sister’s missionary homecoming earlier this year and figured soccer fans could get some extra mileage out of it. Also since we know there’s some debate about whether it’s “Brazil” or “Brasil” we’ve included both S and Z so you can use whichever you prefer.

If you’re with Team USA, of course we’ve got you covered there too — get our free printable USA banner.

The whole family was pretty excited to welcome Jenny back from Brazil, and we got together the night before to make a bunch of welcome home signs to hold up at the airport. It was a crazy, messy business using poster markers, glitter and glue with a bunch of kiddos, but it was great. We also made a fun sign for the house — more on that in a minute.
