Trick-Or-Treating Lantern

Kid-Safe DIY Lantern to make and take Trick or Treating #halloween #kidscraft #trickortreat

This eerie lantern is way more fun than a flashlight to take trick or treating! We recently saw mason jars turned into adorable lanterns, but cringed at the thought of our costumed kiddos tromping through the neighborhood carrying glass. So our spookier version is made from a plastic mayonnaise jar.

SUPPLIES: To make this lantern you’ll need an empty plastic jar (we preferred the Kraft Mayonnaise jar shape) along with tie wire, wire cutters, acrylic craft paint, decoupage paste, paint brush and a battery-operated tealight.

A while back Bettijo and I were preparing some Halloween crafts to share. Our idea for this last-minute spider turned out to be among our favorites. His fuzzy little body and crazy wiggly eyes just made us fall in love with him. (My boys love him, too!)

Changing of the Guard

The Olympics provide such a great opportunity to teach children about other countries, which is why I love the international flag sugar cookies from this Olympic-themed party (also check out the Olympic Ring Wreaths on the wall — SO CUTE!) Since the Summer Games are in London this year, I wanted to do something fun with my boys that would help them learn a little more about England.

When we go to visit some day one of the must see things for my boys will be the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. Around Christmas time you’ll often see toy soldier ornaments made out of old fashioned clothespins, I knew my boys would love playing with an troop of the clothespin Queen’s Guard soldiers so I decided we should make a bunch.

Make a Gold Medal

DIY Olympic Gold Medal Craft for kids during the 2012 London Summer Games

The local NBC affiliate here in Phoenix asked us to create some Olympic-inspired activities to share on the Arizona Midday show this Friday (if you live in Phoenix be sure to tune in to Channel 12 during the 1pm hour to catch our live segment!). We were honored to be included in their Olympic coverage and since it’s the closest either Aimée or I will ever get to being in the Olympics we’ve given it our gold-medal effort!

Who doesn’t want a Gold Medal after watching the Olympics? We made our own Gold Medals using air dry clay, but you could also use this salt dough recipe.
