How To Make Your Own Applesauce #applesauce #recipe #fall

I am so excited to share today’s post from my older sister, Heather. She and her husband are phenomenal cooks and they enjoy cooking together (isn’t that sweet?). They live with their three children in the Washington D.C. area. (Did you know Aimée and I actually met while our husbands were in grad school, and we were living out near my sister?) Anyway, Heather had a splendid idea for this applesauce post. So without further adieu, I’ll let Heather take it away…

I love Fall! I remember my mom buying apples by the box and making homemade applesauce by the crockpot full. It was delicious! She really didn’t put much in it besides cinnamon, and that smell throughout the house was always enough to make me want some.

As I started my own family and saw apple prices drop seasonally, I couldn’t help remembering and yearning for some homemade applesauce. One year I was at the library with my daughter and saw the picture book Applesauce Season displayed on the shelf. I couldn’t help myself and brought it home.

Whenever I serve these Snickerdoodle Apple Muffins they are a hit. Everyone from kids to adults loves them—the sweet cinnamon taste with a hint of apple is pure perfection. They’re best when eaten fresh out of the oven after they’ve cooled just enough to touch. We dip the tops in additional butter and cinnamon sugar—and the result is pure bliss in a tiny, bite-sized muffin.

Dannon Oikos Yogurt With Pineapple

[js]

[/js]While this may be a sponsored post, I must start by saying I truly believe what I’m writing. Dannon Oikos Greek 0% Fat Plain Yogurt is a staple at my house. As long as I have Oikos yogurt in the fridge, all I need to do is grab a spoon, and I have a healthy convenient snack (or breakfast or lunch).

If you’re new to Greek yogurt, it’s a thicker and creamier yogurt that is packed with nutrition. Each cup of Dannon Oikos Greek yogurt contains twice the amount of protein of regular lowfat yogurt, which I have found helps me feel fuller longer. (Oikos Greek Nonfat yogurt has 12 -14g Protein (24%DV) while regular lowfat yogurt: 5g protein (10%DV) per 5.3oz.) And to clarify, yes, even Dannon Oikos 0% Fat is thick and creamy!

Yummy Peppermint Crackle

Yesterday Bettijo posted her favorite Christmas treat, so we thought it would be fun for me to post mine today. My most favorite food is chips and salsa (and in my opinion that tops any treat I’ve ever had), but that didn’t seem quite appropriate to blog about just a few days before Christmas. So, I thought I’d share my favorite sugary treat of the moment—peppermint crackle.

This stuff is delicious and quite addicting. (I may or may not have had to squeeze in an extra trip to the gym over the weekend for consuming WAY. TOO. MUCH. of this.) I’ve found most people top it with shredded coconut or sliced almonds, yet I love topping it with crushed peppermint. Yum! Anyway, enough babbling, onto the recipe:
