Hello, friends! I’m Kierste, the girl behind the blog Simply Kierste, and I’m delighted to be here sharing in the Books Alive fun! Frog and Toad happen to be two of our most favorite book characters, and we absolutely love all of their best friend adventures together. Each book is made up of several short stories, and the story that we read the very most is called “Cookies” from Frog and Toad Together by Arthur Lobel.
We’ve read this story hundreds of times, and perhaps it’s because we love cookies so much, but we adore this totally charming story about Toad baking cookies and Frog helping to eat them — and neither one being able to resist them! It’s a must read, along with all of the Frog and Toad adventures.
In honor of this darling cookie story, I thought I would share one of our favorite cookie recipes — ones that we find totally irresistible!
Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies
TO MAKE: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, beat both sugars and the butter until creamy. Add the eggs and beat well, then stir in the vanilla. Stir the hot water and baking soda until dissolved, then add to the batter and combine well. Add the flour and salt, then stir in the chocolate chips and toffee bits. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown. (Adapted from Allrecipes)
