Okay we’ve been shamelessly teasing you about this Back to School breakfast, and we are excited to finally share today all the gorgeous photos! Instead of focusing on school buses, apples and the traditional back to school icons, we tried to be inspired instead by a mom’s love and the bittersweet feelings that often overwhelm us all on the first day of school.
We want so much for our children — for all their hopes and dreams to be realized; for them to learn and grow and become amazing individuals; for them to get good grades and get along with others; for them to be invisible to the bullies and never have a bump, scrape or bad day. As much as we wish to, we simply can’t shelter them from life. However we can show them as much love as possible and urge them to be strong no matter what comes.
In my home these back to school breakfasts are a tradition and they are one of the things that I hope will inoculate my kids against all the unknowns of school. We are sharing these freebies so you can quickly throw together a send off breakfast for your kids too. Feel free to use as many or as few of the pieces as you like — we’ve got placemats, placecards, muffin toppers, a banner and even a fill-in photo sign so you can get those first day of school pictures (read our first day photo tips).
A filling breakfast is a must for the first day, but that doesn’t have to take a lot of time. We served up eggs with bluebery muffins, orange juice and fresh berries. There is absolutely no shame in using a boxed muffin mix to save time or try this yummy Snickerdoodle Apple Muffin Recipe.
While the muffins are baking cut out the decorative toppers and hot glue them to lollipop sticks. These muffin toppers alone would make breakfast way more fun for the kids.
If you want to go all out, trim the foldover tags from our packet to make placecards. Write on each child’s name and attach a binder clip to hold it upright.
We hung our Hit the Books banner on twine using bulldog clips, over the window by our kitchen table. We also printed the page of XL party flags on a full-sheet label and created a cute little wrap for our Orange Juice bottle (from IKEA). Frame the Modern Alphabet print for a centerpiece or extra decor.
I think these Inspirational Placemats are one of my favorite parts… they feature six different quotes, and I had everyone read the quote off their placemat aloud during our breakfast.
Don’t forget to take photos of your kiddos before they head to school. We included free printable signs that you or your child can fill in with the pertinent details. Also be sure to read the tips we shared for getting a good back to school photo.
