Twister-Inspired “Loopsy” Party Game

Twister Loopsy Lalaloopsy Birthday Party Game Ideas #lalaloopsy #games

It seems like whenever I’m writing about parties everything is my “favorite.” It’s true that I overuse the word, but when Aimée shared her idea for making our own Twister-like game for Piper’s Lalaloopsy Birthday Party I was SO excited. To create the game we made an Appliqued Game Mat and Printable Spinner Board — they turned out even better than I imagined, and I think this might just be my favorite detail from the Lalaloopsy birthday party.

How to Make a Twister Game DIY #lalaloopsy #games

To Make the Game Mat: I bought a large piece of canvas fabric to use as the backing for our game mat. Then I found four, fun printed fabrics to create the big dots for the mat. We ironed fusible interfacing onto the back side of our four colored fabrics. Next we found a bowl that was close to the right size (about 8 inches) then traced and cut five circles from each of the fabric prints. We ironed the circles onto the board in a pattern resembling a Twister game mat — four colored rows with five circles in each row. We cut our circles with pinking shears to prevent fraying. For extra durability you can choose to sew around the edges of each appliqued circle, but we ran short on time and skipped this step.

To Make the Game Spinner Board: Download and print our Loopsy Game Board template on 11×17 cardstock. (You’ll probably need to take the file to be printed at a local copy center since most home printers can’t handle paper of this size, but don’t sweat it — an 11×17 color print on cardstock should only run about $2.) You will also need an unprinted 11×17 sheet for the back of your board. We cut circle “windows” in our board and glued fabric scraps between the two pieces of carstock so they would show through the windows on the front. As an easier alternative, you could also just color in the circles with a marker that corresponds to the colors of fabric on your game mat. Complete instructions are included on the template.
