Scrapbook: Duet

It’s particularly fun to look back at this favorite page in our family scrapbook since that little baby just turned six yesterday! This layout might look rather simple, but I remember at the time I was putting the page together, I struggled with how to display these two photos snapped of Attalie and Daddy playing a duet together on grandma’s piano.

Daddy Duet

I was having a hard time choosing between the two pictures which were virtually the same shot with the exception that in one Atty was looking at the piano and in the other she as looking at the camera. It seemed silly to show both virtually identical snapshots, but I couldn’t decide which was better. Then I remember wishing I’d taken a closer-up shot of Attalie, and this thought led me to an idea to use a square paper punch to zero in on Atty in the second photo. Normally I would have been hesitant to crop out so much of the photo, but since everything I’d removed was showing in the other, this technique was an ideal solution.

To do this you’ll need a large square paper punch. Mine is Uchida Giga Square Punch, which measures 2-inch side to side or approximately 3-inch diagonally. It is a tool well worth having since it also comes in handy when you have so many photos you don’t know what to do with them all. Like when I used the square punch again on this Christmas scrapbook layout. I punched out all my favorite details from the whole stack of photos I’d taken and made a very organized looking collage. I love the size of my square punch which created four squares that fit almost perfectly on the paper.

What I used…
Pattern cardstock from American Crafts A La Carte collection (out of print)
American Crafts Thickers vinyl letters (color and font no longer available, find similar here)
Black scrap paper
