MAKE A GIFT: Pebble Domino Game

When I saw this Pebble Domino Game in Martha Stewart a while back, I knew I wanted to make it — turns out it is a fairly simple project and perfect to make and give.

Great Homemade Gift - Pebble Domino Game

I made this for my 4-year-old niece. Want to make a set for a youngster on your list? Here’s what you need:

:: Black River Stones
:: Medium-Tip Paint Pen in White
:: 12×12-inch Fabric Piece
:: Domino Template

First sort through your pebbles and find the 28 best stones to be your game pieces — you’re looking for the flattest, largest ones.

Next use the paint pen to draw the domino faces on each of the stones. Martha’s instructions were pretty simplistic, and I found myself wishing for a chart that showed all of the 28 number combinations I needed in order to have a full set of dominoes. Here it is! (A BIG thank you to my friend Kelsey for drawing this for me!)

I trimmed the edges of a large fabric scrap with pinking shears and then placed all my fully dried dominoes in the center. I pulled up all the fabric around the sides and secured with an elastic hair tie to make a pretty little package. Tie on a gift tag and you’re all set to give!

    I love this idea! I’m wondering if I can produce 20 of these sets for my son’s kindergarten class for Christmas! I’m going to check with my landscaper husband to see if there is a rock and granite company close by (N. Phx) with a super great price on flat, black rocks.

    What about the other side of the rock domino, a cute picture perhaps? Also, I’ve never played dominos myself, are there instructions?
