Today I’m sharing some new Thanksgiving table decor ideas. Ever since remodeling my kitchen, I’ve been tapped with hosting our family’s Thanksgiving feast. I actually am glad to host because I love getting to set a beautiful Thanksgiving table. I shared these colorful Mod Tribal Thanksgiving table ideas a couple years ago, but last year I decided to change things up with this elegant black-and-white Thanksgiving table decor. I promise you don’t have to sacrifice style to have easy Thanksgiving table decor. Let me show you how…
Feathers, smooth river rocks and splashes of gold make this Thanksgiving table feel elegant, but it’s really not fussy at all. You can totally pull off these family-friendly Thanksgiving table ideas with very little prep and even get your kiddos involved in the setup.
Easy Thanksgiving Centerpieces
I made these DIY paper teepees again because they are such a great, inexpensive Thanksgiving centerpieces, and my kids love making them. We didn’t set out to make a certain number, everybody just made a few until they were sick of it, and then we spread them down the center of my universal black-and-white stripe table runner (I seriously use this for almost every holiday!).
How to Make DIY Paper Teepees
We mainly used just regular, letter-sized paper, but I to create a few taller teepees I cut off some white butcher paper from the roll I always keep handy (a 36-inch wide roll makes the BEST disposable tablecloth). Here are more details instructions for assembling paper teepees.
Black & White Thanksgiving Table Decor
I had a general idea of the look I wanted for my Thanksgiving table ideas, and I ordered everything online a few days ahead. (Gotta love Amazon Prime — it’s seriously one of my Supermom Secret Weapons!) Then the kids and I did all the prep and setup in about an hour on Thanksgiving day — I promise it’s so easy.
I am so glad I finally have a black-and-white stripe table runner — I seriously use it all the time because it goes with everything. I wish I could have just purchased this stripe runner, but my table is crazy long so I had to make one using this Ikea fabric.
I used our everyday white plates, and my mom has a set of brass flatware, similar to this one. I’ve been trying to talk her into giving to me for years. She let me borrow it for the Thanksgiving table, and yes, I did give it back LOL! If you or your mom don’t have gold flatware though I found a really cute set of disposable gold utensils.
I love these river rock placecards paired with the long pheasant feathers. I’ve seen so many unique Thanksgiving placecard ideas on Pinterest, and I wanted something unexpected and elegant, but still totally easy to do.
You can order black river rocks or find them with the other vase fillers at craft stores. Pick out the largest, smoothest stones and write on your guests’ names using an Extra Fine White Sharpie paint pen. I set them on top of our crisply ironed white linen napkins.
I created a new Black and White Free Thanksgiving Banner to go along with these new Thanksgiving table ideas. I clipped on some feathers instead of extra decorative pennants, and I love how it tied in with the feathers on the Thanksgiving tablescape.
Simple Thanksgiving Kids Table Decor
For our Thanksgiving kids table decor I continued the black-and-white motif, but it was super simple and all about the FUN! For a tablecloth, I pulled this black-and-white doodle print fabric from my stash. I think I bought it at IKEA several years ago. If you can’t find something similar you could always just use white butcher paper. For extra credit you could even paint lines, dots or doodles of your own onto the butcher paper ahead of time (sort of like what I did here.)
I set out these DIY stone dominos as a sort of centerpiece for the kids to play with. Each of the kids’ spots had a plain white legal pad as a sort of placemat, with the fun crayon turkeys set on top. These DIY crayon turkeys are always the highlight of our kids table.
As I was going through these photos from Thanksgiving last year, I was startled by this gorgeous photo of Miss Modette with my Grandmother Betty (who is my namesake). As I remember back, I felt compelled to snap quite a few beautiful photos of Grandma with my kids, my sister’s son, and my Dad. I think I somehow knew she wasn’t going to be with us very much longer. She recently passed away in August. While these photos stopped me in my tracks this year, I know that I will cherish them always.
My Grandma and Grandpa adored each other so much, and I love that they were not afraid to show it. Theirs is a love affair that will truly last forever.
