I’ve been putting the finishing touches on our BIG Lalaloopsy party post — it’s going to be another long one! Have I mentioned how much I adore these Lalaloopsy dolls? So designing the invitation was lots of fun but also a challenge. I had to fight my minimalistic tendencies which are totally contrary to the world of Lalaloopsy.

I knew I wanted a blue gingham background representing sky and the cute muslin cloud, inspired by the Lalaloopsy logo, to frame the invitation wording. I then planned to use real ribbon or ric-rac embellishments to add color, texture and excitement to the printed invitation.

As I was designing I emailed Aimée asking her to pick between two embellishment options: (1) printed button flowers on the bottom growing out of a line of real green ric rac “grass” or (2) three colorful ribbon scraps stapled to the upper right-hand corner. Aimee’s response: “Do both!” She was right. At first what seemed to me like too much turned out to be just right for Lalaloopsy.

Of course the best part for you is that we’re offering personalized printable templates of this Lalaloopsy Party Invitation in our Etsy Co-op. We’ll also include as a bonus our black-and-white stripe printable pattern that you can use to print the backside of the invitation or to use as bottle wraps or tray liners at the party!

To make these DIY Lalaloopsy Invitations: Order your printable file then print out on cardstock. Adding the embellishments is a snap: use several glue dots or a hot glue gun to adhere a 7-inch length of lime green ric rac; and simply fold and staple on the 3-inch pieces of ribbon to the upper, right-hand corner of the invitation. The result is a customized, totally memorable invitation that will have your little guests giddy with excitement!
