First Day Photo Signs

The first day of school is a big photo opp for parents, so I thought we’d share some of our tried and true tips for getting the best out of your family’s pictures.

It’s smart to do a little prep work so the morning of the first day is a breeze.

1. Have your child help pick out a favorite outfit ahead of time and be sure to set it aside — this point might seem obvious but if you’ve got little ones who are excited to wear new school clothes, this step could save a lot of hassle on the first day.

2. Take your kids in for a fresh haircut. Have you heard about the new Online Check-In App from Great Clips? It’s a free app that can save time by helping you locate your nearest salon and add your family to the wait list. Photographing vacations involves telling a story with your camera. The goal is to capture the feelings, sights, and emotions of the trip so you can look back and remember. In creating a complete story, it’s helpful to have a variety of shots. Focus on gathering an assortment of candid, detail, posed and wide shots. Don’t forget to get in the photos yourself, and remember to balance your time between enjoying your vacation and photographing it.

I can’t emphasize this enough! So many moms pull out the camera, and tell their kids to look up and smile — don’t do that! We’ve got plenty of pictures of their smiling faces, just snap what they are doing with a side view of their cute faces. Whether they are reading a book, jumping rope, or baking in the kitchen, capture the candid moments.
