Easy Halloween Porch Decor + Shutterfly Giveaway

I’ve been so wrapped up with preparation for Pinners Conference, that I’m a little behind on getting my Halloween decor all setup. I guess it’s OK though because I was reading Martha Stewart Living, and there’s this “Martha’s Month” page every month that says what Martha will be doing on any given day. I find it humorous, because are we seriously supposed to believe that Martha is the one having her horses reshoed on October 5th? Or that she was busily cleaning and storing her summer clothes in canvas bags last Friday? Today she’s cleaning and refilling her bird feeders, in case any of you were wondering. Hahaha!

I digress though, my point was that depending on how much credence you want to give to Martha’s calendar, decorating the house for Halloween should happen on October 21st. So actually I’m still early! I just love this Halloween front porch display that we created a few years back using custom decor items from Shutterfly.

It is so much fun to be able to literally dream up any decor and bring it to life with Shutterfly’s home decor. I love how this “Something Wicked This Way Comes” quote from Macbeth looks turned into Wood Wall Art on my front door. (You can make one too with my free graphic file downloads, see below.)

I usually hang a wreath on the door, but I think this wood print is fabulous, and I love how the wood grain shows through. On these wood prints, anything in the image that is white will end up being the color of the raw wood — it’s really cool. I put some Mounting Putting on the back side of the bottom corners to help secure the print as the door opens and closes.

I love pumpkin carving tutorials the same way I like to watch Bob Ross painting shows… I’m completely entranced in the process, but who knows if I’ll actually attempt it in real life. Although here is a super-easy trick for making fab pumpkins using the Shutterfly 5×5 Acrylic Blocks. All you have to do is cut out a square, which is a lot easier than a face!

We ordered a few of the 5×5 Acrylic Blocks from Shutterfly and then cut holes in our pumpkins to hold the blocks. The blocks are one of our absolute favorite products from Shutterfly, and they have a cool translucent quality — just look how they glow at night!

TO MAKE: Cut top off and clean out pumpkin as usual. Lay prepared pumpkin on its side and place the 5×5 Acrylic Block on top. Using a pointy object to go straight down and place a mark in the pumpkin at each of the corners. We also placed marks at the midpoint of each side of the square. Use these marks as guides to cut the hole in your pumpkin. Once cut, press piece in firmly to loosen then sticking your hand in side press back up and lift out. We used decoupage paste to seal the back of our acrylic block, and protect it from the juicy pumpkin guts. If you’re using a fake pumpkin you can skip this step. Once dry press the acrylic block firmly into place. We used a flashlight rather than candle to light up our pumpkin since we didn’t want to harm the acrylic block.

Here’s another pumpkin glowing with my “Bless this Haunted Home” graphic — love it! Makes me laugh so much that I decided to put it on a pillow too. I also made another pumpkin using an “H” monogram acrylic block. I’m so excited that after Halloween I can display this block on my entry table.

One last fun detail on my Halloween porch are these custom pillows featuring kid’s spooky drawings. These custom kid’s art pillows are unbelievably easy to make. Simply scan in the drawing, upload it to the Shutterfly site, and prepare for a total #SupermomMoment when you show your kiddo their pillow! For best scanning results, use a plain white sheet of paper and either have them draw the picture with a black marker or trace over their lines with a marker.

  2. Wow, I had no idea Shutterfly offered more than basic photos and books these days! So cool! I’d buy a canvas print for us and then either books, calendars, or photo blocks for the grandparents for Christmas. If there was anything left I’d get a journal and a stainless steel mug!
