Books Alive: Scrubbly Bubbly Car Wash

We are having a lot of fun with our summer reading series, and today’s idea from Meg at BrassyApple is sure to get your kids excited and wet! Take it away Meg…

Well we love Summer Reading and having the book come alive in the form of a related activity is AWESOME! One of my kids favorite books is the Scrubbly Bubbly Car Wash. It’s fun to read and rhythmic.

So for the activity, actually going to the car wash is a given, right? While that can be super fun, we went a little different route. We had a windy rain storm recently and it left Dad’s car quite dirty. We hadn’t had time to give it a wash, but he didn’t enjoy taking it to work each day that dirty — LIGHTBULB moment! How about we surprise Dad, and wash his car?!

We snuck over to his work, “stole” his car out of his parking lot, and headed to the self-serve car wash. This was a great opportunity to put my kids’ car-washing skills to use and have them experience again the fun of a car wash.

Each of my kids was able to participate in all aspects of giving some SURPRISE service for their Dad — they helped insert the dollar bills into the exchange machine, put the quarters in the car wash machine, spray the car down, soap it up and rinse it off. I let them do it all. Needless to say the car wasn’t the only thing that got “washed” that day! LOL! They really had fun with the pressure of the water coming out! Plus a surprise car wash is way more fun than a regular one!

After we returned the car to the parking lot – still being sneaky so we wouldn’t get caught – we chalked up some “LOVE NOTES” around his car. The parking lot was more gravel-y than smooth but the kids were still able to leave Dad some hearts, doodles and “I love you’s” as an added surprise.

And boy was Dad surprised to find his car had been washed, when he walked out of work at the end of the day. The kids could hardly stand to wait for him to be done with work. They loved being sneaky and doing a surprise car wash for him.

  2. I think This is a good idea, especially to those people who really love cleaning their cars. Giving them something like this gift card would really mean a lot to them. Thanks for sharing your idea.
