Books Alive: Pinkalicious

We are joined for our summer reading series today by Kristen of Capturing Joy, sharing one of her favorite children’s books…

My girls love it when I read them books, and my older daughter loves to read books to ME, too! One of our favorites is Pinkalicious. When I first read it, I was blown away by the illustrations, they are so fun and cheery, and just made me happy.

It’s really just a silly story about a girl eating too many pink cupcakes, which then turns her skin pink (which she LOVES). You’ll have to read it to find out if/how she turns back to normal. It stemmed a series of the books to follow, Check them out! Since my girls and I love this book so much, I thought it was high time, we crank out some pink cupcakes to see if OUR skin would turn pink.

My oldest had a friend over, and I thought it would be fun to make it a mini party for the three of them. We simply used a strawberry cake mix, and I suggested the girls try to make them on their own. I was close by, helping them when needed, but they had fun cracking the eggs, and beating the batter on their own.

You ready for the recipe?

PINKALICIOUS PINK CUPCAKES:
:: 1 box strawberry cake mix (with egg, oil, water)
:: 1 can pink frosting
:: pink sprinkles
:: pink candies

After baking, it was time to decorate. I handed the kids everything PINK! Pink frosting, sprinkles, and candies to go on top.

To create the mini party, I simply whipped out some pink polka dot wrapping paper as a table runner, covered the pre made can of frosting in white/pink polka dot paper, gathered up the sprinkles in fun little cups, and we were all set.

Then the girls took the cupcakes out to the treehouse to serve them to each other, and indulged in all the pink-ness!

It was fun to read the book again at the end of our creating, and live the story again!
