Activities for The Big Game

Football Handwriting

So I was at Liam’s soccer practice on Monday and my friend Ashley turns to me and asks if we would be posting any kid-friendly activities for The Big Game. (Actually she said Superbowl but my husband has since informed me it’s a trademarked word, so I will hereafter refer to it as The Big Game with a little giggle.)

I thought that was a great idea and wanted to know when the game was. When she mentioned it was THIS Sunday I cringed. Yikes! It’s a busy week for me, yet I didn’t like the thought of any kid being forced into actually watching The Big Game because we didn’t provide any alternate activities. So, for all you kids who will want to use that time for something other than watching the game, this round-up is for you:

Football Handwriting Worksheet
Simply download our football worksheet then print. Offer up some crayons, colored pencils or markers, and your kiddos will feel involved in the spirit of the game. Go team! (Who’s playing anyway?)

Decorate Your Own Helmet
Download our blank helmet printable, and then print for your kids to decorate. Let their imaginations runs wild with basic crafting supplies from around your house: glue, glitter, crayons, paint, stickers, whatever you can find. Or, to keep it clean and simple, ask the kids to color the helmet to resemble their favored team.

The Big Hunt
Cut out several footballs from construction paper and hide them around the house for kids to find. Think of obscure places to keep even the oldest kids hunting: hung on string from the entry chandelier, taped on the underside of the remote or stuck on the bathroom mirror or ceiling. Tell the kids how many footballs are hiding, and let them hunt together or make it a competition to see who can find the most.

Football Plays
Using figurines, let your kids “play” their own game of football. The reviews on this toy sound like kids of all ages have fun.

Repurpose Toys
Pull out your bucket of Lego blocks and challenge the kids into making the tallest field goal post. Just maybe the kids will get distracted enough, you’ll buy yourself extra Big Game viewing time!

Energy Busters
If it’s warm enough, send the kids to your backyard for their own friendly game of touch football. Or start them in a game of fly-up or lead them in a simple football toss.

And by the way, if you’re looking for some delicious game food, this site had my complete attention. I’m making these for me.

  1. While those are definitely great ideas for activities, I have a feeling Liam will still be sitting next to me asking questions every 10 seconds while I try to watch the game.
