How to Teach Counting to 100

Counting to 100 and more free worksheets from PagingSupermom.com #worksheets #counting

Learning to count is always exciting for little ones–and it’s definitely cause for celebration the first time junior makes it to 100 all by himself! In our home I like to teach how to count from 0 to 10. Then we add the teens to count to 20. Next, I taught my boys how to count by 10s to get to 100. Those exercises were enough for them to understand the counting pattern, so by the time they mastered those concepts, counting to 100 by 1s was “easy-peasy” and didn’t take much practicing.

I’ve been working with my youngest, Harrison who’s now 4, in writing each of his numbers. Sometimes transferring what’s in his head to writing can be a little tricky. To help this writing process I made our Count to 100 worksheets. I made two versions: Count to 100 with Help for a few hints to keep your little one on track as well as a more advanced Count to 100 Template.

  1. We needed this chart! We’ve been working with our 4 year old on counting to 20, so we’re ready to work on counting to 100. This chart will be great! I think the biggest thing to help them is repetition. Finding some different ways to teach her is awesome! Thanks!

    • I’ve just found Counting is Easy Peasy which I’m using with my 4 year old. He was struggling with remembering the order of the numbers over 11 and this pdf is brilliant. It explains how the numbers work in a way that little ones can understand.

  2. Thanks for the template. My kindergartener is still having trouble with her higher numbers and this is perfect. I always forget to ask her teacher for more ways I can help. This will be perfect. Thank you!

I’m a Montessori teacher for lower elementary (1st-3rd) grade. Mostly 1st graders use paper like this. You’reprobably way beyond this now but I thought I would share anyway. In Montessori we teach 1-10 using different Montessori materials, then we teach counting by 10s to 100 (also using materials) and last we teach the teens which is a more abstract concept for preschoolers. This website offers more information, if you’re interested: https://plantingpeas.com/montessori-hundred-board/ Thanks again! Best wishes.
