DIY Valentine Banner

Are you gearing up for Valentine’s Day in your home? Since the stores are already displaying pink and red hearts, we’re ramping up over here. First activity: a Valentine Banner!

To get my kids involved, I designed a simple banner for them to color. You can download it here for your kids, too! It’s so easy. Once you’ve downloaded the free template, print on cardstock, then cut along the solid lines to form pennants. Hand the pennants over to your kiddos to color while you grab some string.

I used fun fur yarn (a crafting favorite) in white and red. I wrapped the end with tape to make threading easier.

After we were done coloring, I used a craft knife to slit the corners of each pennant.

Next, I thread with my prepared yarn. If you’re feeling extra festive, knot ribbon or fabric scraps between each pennant (similar to our Spooky and Give Thanks banners).

Knowing my boys have short attention spans (and therefore would probably not color in all the spaces), I printed ours on pink paper. If you have more ambitious artists in your home, white cardstock may be more suitable. Also, this would be a fun banner to glitter!

We’d love to see your banners, so share your pictures on our Facebook page!

  1. I LOVE your blog!! I made this banner today with my daughter (age 5). We had a great time together. Thank you so much!!

Do you use a specific program to create your templates? I would love to add my daughter’s name to the sip a dee do dah valentines and maybe our own design on a banner. I have been trying to look up software on the internet, but I do not know where to begin as a non technical person.

I have to say you saved me hours of work. I stumbled across your site while making my own Rapunzel banner. I had started to hand cut each sun medallion to glue on each flag before I found your handy dandy template. I hand cut the whole banner (12 flags) and strung the whole banner up in about 15 minutes!!! It really made my day. We even had time to make the braid for the front door, and the jell-o boats. My daughter had a blast and the family party was really festive. I wish I found you sooner. I would have done your invitations, and the paper lanterns too.

    With heartfelt thanks, Sonja
